Nonprofit Leaders Step Back to Move Forward at Seasoned Leader Retreat

Nonprofits are essential to the strength and sustainability of our communities. Yet the leaders behind these organizations often face intense demands as they work to fulfill their missions. Recognizing the importance of renewal and reflection, Nonprofit Support Network partnered with Intentional Coaching and Consulting to host a Seasoned Leader Retreat designed to help nonprofit leaders recharge, refocus, and prepare for the future.

Eight nonprofit leaders gathered at the Inn at Honey Run in Millersburg, Ohio, for four days of guided learning, peer connection, and mindful relaxation. Surrounded by the beauty of northern Ohio, participants had the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day responsibilities of their organizations and focus on their own leadership growth.

A Time for Reflection and Renewal

The retreat was intentionally designed to give leaders space to pause, reflect on what this season of leadership is asking of them, and return with renewed clarity, energy, and purpose.

Guests arrived Monday evening, greeted with appetizers around the patio firepit, and settled in for a time of rest before beginning two days of facilitated learning and meaningful conversations with peers. By Thursday, participants were prepared to put their individual Strategic Leadership Blueprints into action after a transformative experience that included an evening outing through the hills of Ohio's largest Amish settlement and dinner at Dutch Valley Restaurant.

Building Leadership Capacity

Facilitators Erin Slater and Beth Rashleigh led participants through a framework centered on three key areas: personal compass, capacity and influence, and future readiness.

Through guided reflection and discussion, participants explored the values, motivations, and priorities that shape their leadership. The personal compass exercises helped leaders identify what guides their decision-making and clarify their purpose within their organizations.

The capacity and influence sessions encouraged participants to examine the responsibilities, obstacles, and challenges that may be limiting their effectiveness. By recognizing and addressing these barriers, leaders gained practical strategies for moving forward with greater confidence and focus.

Finally, the future readiness component challenged participants to consider the long-term sustainability of their organizations. Discussions focused on building resilient teams, developing healthy leadership practices, and creating conditions that support lasting impact.

Ready for the Next Chapter

The retreat achieved its goal of providing nonprofit leaders with a meaningful opportunity for reflection, growth, and renewal. Participants left feeling supported by a network of peers, equipped with practical leadership tools, and inspired to continue advancing their organizations' missions.

Many arrived with questions about their leadership journey and departed with greater clarity, actionable strategies, and a personalized roadmap for the future.

One participant shared, “In 40 years of trainings, I have never walked away with so many practical tools from a retreat.”

Armed with new insights, stronger peer connections, and a clear Strategic Leadership Blueprint, these nonprofit leaders returned to their organizations ready to lead with renewed purpose and intention.
